are basic kinds of agreement which a man and woman must come to in order to cleave to one another. This calls you to make a realistic assessment of your similarities and differences and to make realistic choices and plans about the future. Jesus says that we must count the cost of our decisions (Luke 14:28–29). Amos says, “Can two people walk together unless they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). We are suggesting to any couple contemplating marriage that they ask “leaving and cleaving” questions of themselves.
